FEILDING PATRIOTIC SOCIETY

ANNUAL REPORT.

ANNUAL MEETING TO-DAT

The annual meeting of the Fcilding Patriotic Society is to be held this afternoon, The following is the annual report of the chairman (Mr. J. W. Bramwell); — In presenting the 12th annual report I find that it is very similar to tho report furnished last year. The duly audited balance-sheet submitted to members is clear and needs little explanation. It shows that the advances to soldiers and dependents during tho year amounted to £132 Ss Gd and loans in small amounts to three soldiers lotaleld £72 3s Sd. Included in the. expenditure during tho year you will note secretary’s hoiiorium and grant £33 10s. This included a special grant for part purchase of a typewriter for the secretary’s office. Apart from this item of expense the total extra cost of conducting I lie business of the society during the year only amounted to £S 13s Id which included auditor’s fees and all incidental expenses. AVheu it is noted that in addition to attending to applications from our own district soldiers, wc deal with scores of applications from returned men who enlisted from ‘other districts and in every case grant the needed assistance whenever possible, it will be seen that the administrative expenses arc very low indeed. During the year just past applications for assistance . have been more numerous than iu recent years. Fortunately wc have, in our own district, no serious breakdowns in health to report but there arc a considerable number of men needing temporary help. Five meetings of tlio executive committee ■wore held during the year at which 43 applications for assistance wore dealt with, and about GO personal applications were made by returned soldiers (the responsibility of other societies in most cases) and which werb considered and dealt with on their merits.

As time goes on it is probable that the number of: men requiring assistance may increase but allowing for this and providing that no specially heavy expenditure becomes nccesary in eases of serious breakdown in health, it may bo expected that the funds of tho society will be sufficient to carry on for a further four years. 1 have again to express my appreciation of the very efficient manner in which Mr. Fisher and his 'assistant Miss Miller have carried on tho work of the society during past years.
