Britain possesses men of greater ingenuity in the practical application of scientific principles to manufactures than any country in the world, according to Sir Alfred Mond, who claimed to know leaders of industry the world over.
hiir Alfred Mend, when addressing a chemical industry conference at Westminster, defended combinations. Ho was responsible for the formation of the largest chemical combination in tho world.
Each large organisations, ho said, were able to find scope for talents ami experience far belter than smaller enterprises. The chemical industry must be prepared to sound millions on ex-
pcrimcnts and research. Otherwise it would fall behind other countries. He added that British dye-making was long hampered by patent, laws enabling ingenious Gormans to keep the British market in their own hands. The German predominance therein before the war was not duo to German scientific knowledge or inventiveness.
