The promotion of Captain J. R. T. Slipper, V.D., Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles, to the rank of Major, is gazetted. Sir Robert Stout, M.L.C., who has been visiting Mr and Mrs J. Logan Stout, returned to Wellington yesterday afternoon. The Hon. 0. J. Hawken, Minister of Agriculture, arrived at Dunedin last evening from Invercargill. He broke his journey north to attend the anniversary function of the Edcndale Dairy Co. The Minister will leave for the north by the express to-day.—Press Association.
The Governor-General, Sir Charles Fcrgusson and Lady Alice Fcrgusson will remain in Auckland until June 7 when they will make a tour of the Taranaki and Hawke's Bay districts. Their Excellencies will attend the Manawatu Show at Palmerston North on Juno 21 and will then proceed to Wellington for the Parliamentary session.—Press Association.
