i {ANNUAL MEETING. ' Tho'apnnual meeting oi the New Zealand Ayrshire, Cattle Breeders' Association ' was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. F. Mills presiding over a good attendance of members. In moving the adoption for the annual report the chairman said that the Ayrshire breed had proved itself capable of doing as well as other breeds under any conditions. The breed had undoubtedly made satisfactory progress. It was particularly noticeable in districts where one breed previously held sway, that the Ayrshire bull was being utilised with advantageous results. The Association was keeping breeders in the matter of cost of placing cows under test and proposed to develop support of autumn shows by offering a £2O cup or shield for annual competition. He considered that the adoption of - the Ayrshire breed by the Girls' Flock House institution would result in developing on interest In the breed and give those girls, passing through the institution, a bias for the Ayrshire. Some benefit was bound to accrue from this effort Of the , Association to further' popularise the breed. The speaker paid a tribute to the quality of the exhibits at the last New Plymouth Show and claimed that the Association had every reason to bo satisfied with the support accorded by breeders. The exhibits, in point of numbers, were disappointing at the last Royal Show —a feature to be regretted. Ayrshire sales ha'd been very well. patronised ' but generally speaking, the state of the produce market had been reflected in the activities. , In conclusion the speaker struck, a note of warning respecting the extravagance of the community. All had been urged to produce more but this would not help if the return was to ,be expended on luxuries. Unfortunately, most of the money expended on luxuries; -such as motor-cars, found its way -to the wrong source. It would be a;, good thing if the community could give up its present-day extravagance. Mr. T;.(Webb seconded the motion, and regretted that he was unable to congratulate the Association for an Increase In membership. The report and balance-sheet . was adopted.
