Bell, of Karere. who achieved fame by his ride from Auckland, Palmerston North on hprsebacte some; three months ago, is out for v irpsKUaureis, this time in the poultry 'He has on exhlbiv thP ’ Manawatu Poultry Show tliree ducks which won the egg laying competition recently completed at Auckland. ‘ The three birds laid 1400 eggs in two years, one of the ducks breaking the New Zealand record by laying more eggs the second ,year than.it did .the .first. ' The first year it laid 273 eggs, and in the second year, 280 eggs. It was placed second on Show points by the Government expert, before the laying competition commenced and is being shown in the utility class at the Show., The parents of this bird are being shown in the fancy birds section. They were imported from England, and were never beaten in the show room in England, winning the classics at such shows as held at London and Birmingham. They have never been shown in the Dominion, and Mr Bell’s intention is to try and disprove the theory that utility birds cannot be bred from fancy birds. The imported birds were bred by Captain £,ong.
