' When times are good and there is plenty work for all, the tote bells ring l a merry and fascinating 1 , jingle, tout with unemployment rife throughout the land, people are not able to give a pound “a flutter on their fancy.'” The Dunedin meeting which 'closed on ’ Saturday ( showed a decrease of £22,544 compared with last year, the Taranaki meeting £12,749, the 'Poverty Bay fixture £1671, while the opening day of the Eotorua meeting showed a shrinkage of £956, a total of £37,920 on the four meetings.
