HUNTING AT KAIRANGA

Dirty weather conditions militated against tiie attendance o£ both followers and spectators when the Manawatu Hunt held a "meet” at the homostead of Mr. D. B. McEwcn at Kairanga yesterday afternoon. However, a pretty good field turned out and some good sport was witnessed by a fairly large number of spectators. The paddocks were in splendid order and three runs were obtained, the hounds travelling very fast. The going; was a bit on the slippery side and there were several spills, but no one suffered the least hurt. The drags wore laid by Mr. J. Shaw, on Rita, and Mr. L. Collins, on Glad Eye, and among thosp following were;—Mr. L. 11. Collinson (master), on Birkenose; Mr. J. J. Waller (huntsman), on Kobin Adair; Mr. M. E. Wood (hon whip), on Black Prince; Mrs. Meade, Prudence: Mrs.l Sutton, Pot Luck; Miss Marjory; Davidson, Knight; Miss Kitty Saunders, Top Kail; Miss Phyllis Meade, Diogenes: Miss Laura Meade, Tony; Miss Kitty Meade, Pippin; Miss Myra Benton, a black; Miss Baker, Tiri; Messrs. D. B. McEwcn, Snowflake; J. Shaw, Rita; L. Collins. Glad Eye; H. Benton, Dainty Step; H. Swainson, Tcrchu; K. Hoult, Civility; W. Buck,

Dr. Bill; S. J. Bailey, a chesnut; W. Scott, Sometime; W. B. Brown, a chesnut: F. Haley, a black; J. Doyle, Sooner: and others.

Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mr. and Mrs. D. B. McEwen at their residence at the conclusion of the hunt, when all present enjoyed the cup that cheers. A vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. McEwen and to the propertyowners was proposed by the Master (Mr. D. H. Collinson), who expressed the feeling that they were ahva{>) welcome at Kairanga. The vote was carried with cheers ,and Mr. McEwen returned thanks, extending an invitation to the Hunt to come there as often as they liked, and the bigger the crowd the more welcome they would be. The next fixture is an all-day hare hunt on Saturday, the throw-off being at 11 a.m., at the homestead of Mr. S. G. Perry.
