EARLY HATCHINGS.

Much has been said on the subject of early hatching, and yet there are so many points in Its favour as to justify further reference. In the first place, early spring is Nature’s breedng season, and is most favourable for the growth of the youngsters. Given the same food, care, and attention chickens hatched in July, Vugust and September will weigh more at the end of four months than will those of the same age hatched at any month of the year. The rate of growth of a chicken is greater during the first four weeks of its life than at any other period..- Chicks hatched early are of good growth when vermin- are at their worst, and it is well-known that thousands of the late-hatched ones die annually through being vermin infested. One most important point in favour of early hatching is that the pullets will produce more eggs in the first twelve months of their lives than will those hatched in later month®.
