LADIES’ “BULLY-OFF" j TO-MORROW. • I

Mr. F. Cousins presided at last night's meeting of the 'Manawatu. | Hockey Association, the attendance comprising Messrs. C. Aitchison, W. Broughton, H. Harvey, V. Hostick, E*|| Matthews, H. D. Milne, H. Powell, C. Reeve. W. Scott, H. Tozer, T Wall ; and A R. Cliffe (hon secretary). Mr. H. G. Knowles, resident delegat* at Wellington to the New Zealand# Ladles’ Hockey Association, thanked f the Manawatu Association for his.ap-g pointment and submittted a comprehensive report on the business of the annual meeting at Wellington. The secretary’s action in approving of the appointment of Mr. Preston as. representative on the New Zealand Hockey Association, at Christchurch, was endorsed.

Messrs. Cousins and Cliffe were appointed a deputation to wait on the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerco in connection with the visit of an Australian hockey team to Palmerston North.

Messrs. Cousins,. Aitchison and Reeve were appointed to wait on the|| Palmerston North Boys’ High School authorities in connection with a team for the senior competition. Entries for all competitions (Saturday and Wednesday) clo_se on Monday, May 11. This applies to men’s as well as ladies’ competitions, also to the J, schools. ,

For general information the Association wishes it known that primary school girls may play in the ladles’ hockey competition, if registered, v Hckowhltu has entered a team for ■ the schools’ competition and will be represented by a delegate at the next . meeting. The accounts showed a credit baH ance of £27 18/7 (without fees accompanying entries received at the meeting). ' h'.fl Men’s Section. The chairman reported that the i meeting called in connection with thel formation of men’s teams for Wednesday and Saturday competitions was poorly attended both by players and ; members of the Manawatu executive. , It was impressed on the meeting that its members could not be expected to hold the confidence of players when so lax themselves. A “muster” didij not reveal a very strong position, but it was decided to hold a seven-aside : tournament on Wednesday week and another on the following Saturday, May 16. This would enable the Asao-A ciation to know exactly where they were with regard to getting men’s hockey on the map. Entries will close on Monday, May 11. The fees and rules to be the same as in the past. Feildlng Tournament.

The Feilding Hockey Association || notified its attention again to hold a tournament on the King’s Birthday, | at Victoria Park, Feilding. The tourney will be an all and one-day event, jj conducted on the lines of a Yankee jJ tournament, each team being practically guaranteed a minimum of three games. Members of the Manawatu | Association were of opinion this ■ tournament was the best conducted | one in the country. Last year, there | were 55 entries. The ladles’ compe- || tition will be 7-aside and the men’s 5-aside. . | Unwanted Trophy. In connection with the reported , action of West End’s intention to re- : turn the McLean Shield because it was a “second-hand” trophy, the , Club’s delegate said he understood all the miniature shields were filled up and that there was no room for West End’s name as 1924 winners. The secretary denied this and stated that th® Shield was as good as new, the miniature shields had all been “re-turned” and West End’s name was,the one on the shield! It appeared that West End had returned the shield before its subsequent renovation but had not taken advantage of an opportunity to “lift” -the shield although invited to |i| attend the presentation of trophies and repeatedly notified whore it could be obtained. It was decided after a further explanation by the delegate (Mr. W. Scott) that the West End Club be notified of the actual position with a request that the McLean Shield be now taken over.
