REDFERN TRAGEDY.
SURVIVING YICHTM’S STORY,
AYES TO PACE MURDER CHARGE.

At tbc inquest on the victim of the Redfern tragedy, Alice Quirk, who was badly injured gave evidence. She said Aves had several times asked her to marry him and when she refused, ho said no one else would gusher. On the night of the tragedy, he again asked her and she again refused. She then went to bed with her mother. Later, she was awakened by a noise and saw a man, whom she believed to bo Aves, standing in the room. She became frightened, pulled the bedclothes over her head and did not remember anything more till she found herself in hospital.
The Coroner returned a verdict of murder' against Aves whom he committed for trial.
