Padre E. L. Garner will be remembered by thousands of New Zealand soldiers for his unselfish devotion to duty and their interests on a long period of active service. This para graph is prompted by his advent to Palmerston North, where he is attach, ed to Brigadier Newby in charge of Palmerston Divisional Headquarters of the Salvation Army, his forte being young people’s work. Padre Garner went out with, tho Main Body and was in camp with the "contemptible little army” here at Awapuni. He served in Egypt France (on the Somme), Belgium ’(attached to the Entrenching Battalion, under command of Colonel George Mitchell, ex-M.P., at Meteren, where the Germans pierced the lino), and in various aspects of camp life in England. No doubt many service men will look-up this cheerful officer with a good record of useful service in tho war zones.
