MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS.
A meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union was held last evening. In the absence of Mr A. Hannay Mr A. M. Ongley took the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Town Clerk of WoodvUlo, advising that the Union's letter of the 28th ultimo had been considered by the Council, and that a notice of motion, as follows, had been given; "That the application of the' Manawatu Rugby Union for the use of tlio recreation ground at a rental of £lO .for the season be acceded to.” —• Received. From the Dannevirke Suit-Union, asking that the Union submit dates for its annual representative fixtures. —Held over until later in the season. From W. Fenton, Newbury, asking that the disqualification placed upon him three years ago be lifted. Granted. From the Wairarapa Rugby Union, supporting the candidature of Mr E. McKenzie as manager for the “All Blacks” to tour England.—Referred to the delegates to the New Zealand Rugby Union. Prom the Bunnythorpc Club, asking for the re-instatement of R. Godfrey as a thirs grade player for the coming season..—Referred to the classification committee. OPENING DATES. MATCHES POSTPONED FOR A WEEK. A letter was received from the secretary of the Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, requesting that in view of the Club’s meeting on April 5, and the fact that a number of footballers would be taking part in the meeting, the Union should postpone the date of the opening matches.
A communication of similar import was received from the president of the Manawatu Athletic Sub-Centre, while the Kia Toa Club wrote making application for a bye for the club’s senior team on the day of the athletic meeting, as a number of the club’s members would be taking part in the latter event.
The chairman stated' that as a sporting body, the Rugby Union could afford to assist another sporting body which was in need of that assistance. It would perhaps be also satisfactory to the players themselves if the commencing date of the senior and juniors matches bo postponed for a week. He moved in that direction. After a discussion, which was of a favourable attitude toward the motion the motion was carried unanimously. GENERAL. The grounds committee was instructed to inspect the grounds, with power to employ a man to clear them if needed. Owing to his inability to get away on April 10, the chairman resigned from his position as delegate to the New Zealand Rugby Union, and Mr W. Carruthers was elected in his stead. The Feilding Club was granted Tiermission to play either Bulls or Talhape next Saturday. Mr J. Ryan advised of his acceptance of the position of selector of the combined Manawatu-Wanganui-Taranki team to play the Wellington-Walrarapa-Hawke’s Bay team. Western United Club was granted No. 3 and Kia Toa No. 4 ground, for matches on Saturday.
