VICTORY FOB GEORGE COOK. LONDON, March 31. At the National Sporting Club, in a fight of fifteen rounds, George Cook (Australia) outpointed Jack Stanley (Deptford). NOVICE TOURNEY TO-NIGHT. For a good night’s entertainment, a novied boxing tournament usually provides the fun and interest that keeps the onlookers in good humour. The Manawatu Association has held a few novice nights and some excellent new talent has been found and to-night, tourney promises to be better than anything in the past by reason of the fact that the boys are coming from all parts of the district to take part. The local gymnasium in King Street is supplying quite a number and the recent try-outs held there proved that the talent was to be found in Palmerston North, and while the results of the bouts between the local boys can be guaged vejry easily, it is no foregone conclusion because the Shannon, Fox- : ton, Levin and Marton boxers, who have signified their intention to compete, are unknown quantities and the enthusiasts from the country districts are confident that the honours at the conclusion will be in favour of the country districts. More than ordinary interest is taken in the fight arranged between Walden, of Palmerston North, and Frame, of Dunedin. Although Frame has been declared the winner in seven out of seven fights, there are many Palmerston North people prepared to back their assurance, that Walden will be the victor. The box plans for to-night’s tourney are at Oates.
