ROUGH-RIDING TOO ROUGH FOR ENGLAND SOCIETY THREATENS LEGAL ACTION [By Electric Cable—Copyright] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, March 30. ■ The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals threatens legal proceedings if the Empire Exhbition authorities carry out«cowboy contests involving steer-roping and “bull-dog-ging” In which animals’ legs, horns, and necks are sometimes broken. The authorities have already sanctioned the bringing from America of champion cowboys and cowgirls to give displays. Mr Cochrane, promoter.' of the competitions, has offered to pay the fares to England of six Australian and five New Zealand expert rough-riders, and also to pay the return fares of the first ten who cable to him. He will provide the necessary horses.
