KIMBOLTON.

CROQUET. (From Our Own Correspondent). The first round of the championship croquet singles (senior) was played during the past week, when Mrs Richardson defeated Mrs Barnicoat. Mrs Hansen deefated Mrs Marshall. Mrs Hair defeated Mrs Edwards. Mrs Bailey defeated Mrs Tavendale. The second round will be played this week, also the first round of the doubles championship. The season, which has been most enjoyable and successful, will close after the championship games are over, probably before the end of April. A very successful euchre party was held recently in aid of the trophy funds. Prizes were won by Miss M. Burne, and Mr Hugh Murray, the booby prizes falling to Mr Tavendale and Mrs G. Pussel. To-day a party from St. John’s Club, Feilding, will visit the local club, when an enjoyable day is expected. FOOTBALL CONCERT. At the invitation of the members of the local Football Club, a concert party consisting of artists from Palmerston North and Feilding visited Kimbolton on Friday evening. The hall was packed, and the audience showed its appreciation of the various items by an incessant demand for encores. As a result of the entertainment, the club has been placed in a solvent position for the coming season. Prior to the conclusion of the programme, Mr W. Hansen thanked the audience for its generous responses, also the visitors for coming such a long distance to give their services in the club's interests, and to those who had assisted generally in making the entertainment such a success. Cheers were then given for the visitors, and the programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. The following was the programme: Overture, chorus by the company; song, Mr W. J. Woolletts; item, Miss Jean Mitchell; Scotch song, Mr Houston; dance, Miss Rossiter; humorous duet, Messrs. Chapman Bros.; song, Mr Blandford; Irish Jig, Miss P. Maraden; humorous items, Mr Cousens; song, Mr Nicolls; item, Miss Jean Mitchell; song, Mr Blandford; Bailor’s Hornpipe, Miss Rossiter; Scotch song, Mr Houston; song, Mr Woolletts; dance, Miss Marsdon; comic song, Messrs. Chapman Bros.; comic song, Mr Cousens; trio, Messrs Chapman Bros,, Cousens and Blandford. At the finish of this Item the performers took up a collection which resulted in the club’s funds being augmented to the extent of 1.2 14/. Mr Chapman thanking the audience for the support it had given to the club’s appeal for financial assistance. Mrs Hansen, Miss Barltrop and Mr Speight played the accompaniments. The performers were entertained at supper whilst the hall was being cleared for dancing, which was kept up till the early hours of the morning.

Elsewhere in this issue will bo found an announcement concerning a special clearning sale to be conducted by Mr P_ P. Stevens at his auction mart to-morrow. The goods to be offered include the contents of a large storeroom, and these are being quitted as the storeroom is to be closed down.
