Mr W. McKenzie, Secretary of the Manawatu Employers’ Association,, was in L<;vin yesterday. Mr Pearce Coyle returned to Ohlngaiti yesterday, after spending a few days in ■Wellington on pleasure bent. Mr George Parsons, Chief Audit Inspector of the New Zealand Railways, is In Palmerston North on official duties. Sir Maui Pomare, Minister of Health, was a through passenger by the Auckland to Wellington express yesterday morning. Mr M. B. Svensen, of Dannevirke, returned to Southern Hawke’s Bay yesterday after a week’s business trip to Wellington. Mr Arthur Fair, Assistant Crown Solicitor, Welington, passed through Palmerston North on the up Auckland express yesterday. Mr James McDonald, of Wellington, was an Auckland passenger yesterday on the up express. He expects to return before the week-end. Mr C. E. Webb, secretary of the Board of G-overnors of Scots and St. Margaret’s Colleges, Wellington, was a passenger by the South bound New Plymouth express yesterday. Mr A. E. Hendy, a well-known Dannevirke resident, came through by the Auckland express yesterday morning, en route to his home. He had been on a week’s visit to the Queen City. The Rev. C. H. Laws, 8.A., D.D., Principal of the Methodist Theological College, Auckland, returned to the Queen City yesterday afternoon, after a visit to Hastings and Palmerston North. s Mr L.H. Wilson, of the MusgroveWilliamson Proprietary, went to Auckland yesterday to pilot the Pharus Yaudevillians of the Sydney Tivoli through New Zealand. Mr Wilson has just completed a successful tour in charge of the “Long Tack Sam” artists. The Minister of Education (Hen. C. J. Parr) who has been on a visit to Christchurch, was met at Clarence Bridge yesterday by Mr W. J. Girling, M.P., and Mr E. H. Penny. The Minister is staying at Picton and is visiting the So ds, accompanied by Mr Girling. He returns to Wellington today. Mr J. PI. Dick, well-known In Palmerston North, has resigned from the staff of Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., in order to commence business on his own account. He has accepted the agency for the Atlas Insurance Co., and his many friends will wish him every success In his venture.

The Rev. W. Pancourt, M.A., (Cantab.) has been offered, and has accepted the post of vicar of All Saints’ Anglican Church, Palmerston North. The reverend gentleman Is a son of the late Archdeacon Fancourt, and has been vicar of St. Thomas’ Church, Wellington South, for the past nine years. No date has been fixed for his transfer.

Mr lan MeHardy arrived by the Auckland express yesterday from Wellington, on relieving duty in the Palmerston North Office of the Australian Mutual Provident Society. Mr MeHardy is a swimmer of some pretensions and was a member of the Maranui* Club which won the Nelson Cup (Life Saving) at the New Zealand Swimming Championships held at Wanganui. Mr L. Ritchie,. Taranaki’s representative of Messrs John Duthie and Co. Ltd., Wellington, went through to the capital yesterday afterlTSon by the New Plymouth express. • Mr Ritchie’s headquarters are now at Hawera. When resident in Wellington, he took a big interest in Rugby football. He was a member of the Oriental senior team and one of its most useful forwards at date of his retirement in 1910. Thereafter, he kept a stake in the game by looking afto;- the lower grades, and was for several seasons a Wellington junior representative selector. /

Dr. J. G. Mackareth, who is acting as locum tenens for a Levin medical practitioner, will in all probability go into practice in the Horowhenua capital. Dr. Mackareth is the well—known Otago and South Island Rugby representative jwho was chosen as one of the three-quarters for the first test against New South Wales at Dunedin, on August 25 last year (New Zealand won 19—9). Indisposition prevented Dr. Mackareth from taking part in the game. He has thrown in his lot with Weraroa Seniors, and needless to say, will prove a tower of strength to Horowhenua.

The annual meeting' af the Soutv African War Veterans Association was held last evening, when officers were re-elected unopposed. President, Major Bdsworth; vice-president. Captain Broadbelt; secretary, Mr Wilson; treasurer, Mr A. T. Bendall. These gentlemen together with Messrs Lovelock and Jamieson to constitute the executive. It was decided to assist in every possible way in the entertainment of the officers and men of the British Fleet during the Palmerston North visit. Messrs Linklater, Bendall and Wilson announced their intention to place their Cars at the disposal of the transport committee, It is intended to continue the course of lectures during the winter months. Mr H. B. Coombs, secretary of the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association 1 , arrives by the afternoon express from Wellington in connection with ,the evening meeting of the Manawatu section to discuss matters relative to the new classification of the P. and T. Service. Mr Coombs, it will be remembered, opposed Sir John Luke for the Welling, ton North seat, at the last general election, and nearly succeeded in capturing the magic medallion. Some years ago he took a big interest in amateur athletics, while in New Zealand's national game, MrCoombs la one of its central figures, for he has been executive officer of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union for the past five years.
