(From Our Own Correspondent). An enthusiastic meeting of subscribers to the Public XAbrary was held on Friday evening, with Mr E. Cummerfleld in the chair. The balance sheet was presented, and showed a credit balance of £4 2/6. Some discussion took plao© on proposals to put the library on a more businesslike footing. It was pointed out that there were many outstanding accounts and also that many books were, known to be In the possession of nonsubscribers. A great many subscribers also were in the habit of taking more books than the rules entitled them to, and keeping them over the allotted time. It was decided that in future the town members be allowed four books and country members i.e. those outside a fovrr mile radius, be allowed six, and that the rules should be strictly adhered to. It was also resolved that the library, which contains 1000 books, be moved from its present position and that 'Mrs Howell be appointed librarian. One hundred new books arc to be purchased. The library is to be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m.. and on Saturdays from 7 to 8.30 p.m. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs Cantwell for her services in housing the library, also to the officers for the past year.
