WHERE IS SYDNEY?
SHOULD BE "FURTHER WEST." SCIENTISTS' DISCOVERT. It will come as a shock to the public to learn that Sydney is not located where it was yesterday (says a Melbourne correspondent on August 21). The change of site lias been brought about by the Geodesy section of the Science Congress, which, without apparent effort, has lifted the huge city and placed'it further west. This change will not deprive Sydney of its harbour, but if the congresses continue to meddle with geography the time mty come when the New South Wales capital will be removed to a position beyond the Blue Mountains. Dr. Bodwell (Government Astronomer at Adelaide)© told the Congress that Sydney is 380 ft. further west tho.n was previously believed. He announced this during an interesting discussion on Australian wireless longitude determination, and explained that there was a difference of about five seconds to an arc, or onethird of a second, of time. On this basis Sydney's location would not be so far east as previously belieevd. i
