MR WILFORD'S TRIP.
TO AUSTRALLi. AND THE EAST. WILL INVESTIGATE CONDITIONS FIRST-HAND. [Ppr Press Association.l WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Hon. T. M. Wilford, Leader of the Opposition, and Mrs Wilford, will leave by the Mamma to-morrow for Sydney, en route to the East, where a comprehensive tour will bo made of China, Japan, and Singapore. Java will also be visited. Mr Wilford will study first-hand the problems of the East, and will give special attention to the Singapore base question. While in Sydney ho will give atten. tion to matters of mutual interest to New Zealand and Australia Mr Wilford says he has always stood for a "hands across the sea" policy with Australia. "The tariff barriers, framed to encourage, assist, and protect, constitute no difference between us, though 1200 miles divided us, but they have been advanced by those of myopic vision a s reasons for separation and living our lives apart. I have always advocated good feeling and common understanding tmsed on goodwill^
