'WEDNESDAY COMPETITION ENDS. PHOENIX WINS BY 3 POINTS. The Wednesday cricket competition concluded on the Sports Ground yesterday afternoon, when Phoenix defeated Kia Ora very easily, only four of the winning team being required to bat. Kia Ora, who needed a win to carry off first honours, batted first and compiled 107, to which Phoenix, who needed *a draw to win, made 108 for three wickets. The only men to make a stand for Kia Ora were Bennett (40) and Brophy (38) —the remainder of the team managing to register 10 only. I,aw secured the majority of the wickets for Phoenix, while Burke notched the best average, with three wickets for 21. For the winners Kells (32), Tier (31), Burko (21 not out) and Law (20) were the only men to have a strike. Phoenix are, therefore, the winners of this year’s competition by 3 points.
