I The annual race meeting of the fltshhurst-Pohangina Racing Club was hield yesterday in fine" but windy Breather. There was a large attendance, and some excellent racing. The totalisator handled £26,172, a big increase over last year's figures. A feaqire of the meeting was the consistent form shown by winners at Levin last Week, no less than four —O'Rane, Nursing Sister, Esperance and Admdration winning again. The race for the Cup was one of the closest seen art the course for some years, all the &6rses finishing within a length of one inother. An unfortunate occurrence iook place at the conclusion of this which- ended in L. G. Morris, rider of Rose Pink, and J. Barry (Esperance) being fined £5 each, and severely cautioned for disputing the judge's decision. M. McDonald, rider jl Lady Energy, was*also severely cautioned for misbehaviour at the judge's t)OX. Each of these riders rushed up tp the judge's box with their horses sut the conclusion of the race, two of fchem, Morris and Barry, declaring that they had won. The judge's decision, a win for Esperance by a head, svas, to all appearances, a just one, in* the jockeys concerned were lucky in getting off so lightly. The aew motor paddock, which has been added to the appointments since last meeting, was in great demand during the day, and the Club came in for much favourable comment for the excellent provision made for motorists. Mr P. Hanlon (president), Mr A. W. Trass (secretary), and the whole of the Club's officials were most attentive* to their duties, and the meeting was gxcellently managed. The luncheon and afternoon tea room, under the charge of Mrs J. Rawlins, of the White House, were in great demand, and patrons were well satisfied with the fare provided. Mr S. W. R. Evans, of the Royal Hotel, had charge of the booths, and carried out his duties satisfactorily. The Palmcrston Band rendered a fine musical programme luring the day. Mr McMahon, chief stipendiary steward, was in attendance, but beyond the incident at the close of the Cup race, had little to Seal with. Mr Jack Cameron was "» great form in the judge's box. and Mr Angus Keith, as usual* got his fields away in good line. Taking it all bound the meeting was the most successful yet held by the Club, and from a. financial point of view, must be a very profitable one.
