BOXING.
RUTHERFURD DEFEATS WITHEY (By Telegraph—"Times" Special.) STRATFORD. Last Night. A professional boxing contest for a purse of £l5O was held here to-night. between Mick Rutherfurd, of Sydney (9st 101b). and Harry Withey, of Dunedin (lost sib). The fight was remarkably clean throughout, a very high order of skill being shown by both fighters. Rutherfurd displayed considerable cleverness in .evading Withev's determined attacks. The fight went the full fifteen rounds, and the referee's decision in favour of Rutherfurd was a popular one. Mr Tim Tracey was referee. There were also six first-class amateur bouts, and Whittaker (Palmerston North) heal Scott (Wanganui) for the heavyweight, and Canute (Stratford) drew with Davis (Palmerston North) for the middleweight.
