WAIKATO LAND SHARES.

Tickets for the Waikato land, generously donated to the New Zealand Patriotic Society by Mr John M'Master, of the Wairarapa, are now on sale. The prize consists of 4000 fully paid up shares of £1 each in the Maraetaf Farms, Ltd. The property consists of \67,820 acres, and is situated on the Taupo-Totara Railway Company's line of railway, the Maraetai railway station being about 14 miles from Putaruru, where the line junctions with the Rotorua line. The block, which is exceptionally well watered, is being roaded, 7000 to 8000 acres of it have at present been sold, and improvements are being pushed ahead. The price of the tickets is 5s each, and 100,000 are being sold. This is an art union in a good cause, and a wholehearted and spontaneous response is expected. Tickets are being sold from North Cape to the Bluff, and after deducting the necessary cost of promoting this art union—expenses such as advertising and printing—the proceeds will be divided equally between' the four military districts of Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago for the relief of their wounded soldiers and dependents. Telegraphing from Ghristchurch on Monday morning, Mr David M'Laren, who is travelling the Dominion in the interests of the big Waikato land shares art union (promoted by the New Zealand Patriotic Society), says: "Had splendid reception and meetings at Ashburton and Have to address a meeting here to-night. Move towards West Coast to-morrow. Expect orders to come in from circular. Several districts want the closing of the art union extended until December. Can it be done?" Mr J. Lewis, secretary of the Patriotic Society, states that the closing date of the art union would probably have to be extended to December, as a good deal of time had been wasted in putting it before the public, and now there were several big art unions in different parts of the country competing for the public's cash. Already some £4OO worth of tickets had been sold from the Wellington office, and Mr M'Master (who donated the land syndicate shares) had himself sold about £350 worth. Uu to date, about 50,000 tickets have been disposed of, so that early application is necessary. Full particulars will be found in our advertising columns.
