SACRED CONCERT

BY REGIMENTAL BAND

The Opera House was crowded to' the doors last evening when the Tientham Regimental Band gave a most successful and enjoyable concert. As it was probably their final appearance before a Palmerston audience' the band used every endeavour to make the concert the most successful vet given, and they were quite equal ito the occasion. The band has now reached a very high standard of efficiencv, and the concert was very fine indeed. As an overture they pinyed "Under Freedom's Banner," a march 1 which was splendidly given. Their most successful effort, however, waß' the fantasia "A Military Church Particle." The interpretation of this' piece was very clever, the introduction of the cliimes being most beautifully played. By special request the bind rendered "Nearer My God to Thee." The concluding item was a match titled "Yancowina." A delightful feature was the violin playing of Rifleman Mercer, who is undoubtedly an artist. His rendering of "The Rosary" called for rounds of applause, and on a recall he gave a Tarantella by Papper. Even then the audience demanded more, and the _ A ucklander responded with "Until.' Landsman rendition of a cornet solo, "The Lost Chord," was exceptionally fine, and songs rendered by Lance-Corporal Whitton and Richards Afere greatly appreciated.
