FIVE A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. A GREAT DAY'S PLAY. The Showgrounds presented a scene of animation yesterday after- ; noon on the occasion of tne opening of the hockey season. The weather ; was fine, and the games fast. The premier match of the day was played ; between Post Office A and Old Boys A. Both teams were in good form, and each out to win the cherished cup. The second spell ended with each team a goal to credit. The third stage of the game started with some fast ploy and clean hitting, being vrrv opcu and ended with neither side scoring. In the fourth stage Crump, for Post Office, sent a neat shot behind, which won the cup for his team. The final third-class match between Technical School B and Campbell Street was also very willing, the trophy going to the former by one goal. , . The junior final saw Technical School A and High School A on terms of equality at the end of the second spell with one goal each to credit. After a well fought game Technical School carried off the honours in the third round by hitting one behind. A good deal of interest centred round the ladies' games, and although play was not so fast as the other matches, it was nevertheless interesting. The two High School teams met in the final, which finished at dusk, the High School A defeating their senior opponents in the third round by hitting one behind.
