SELF DENYING PRESIDENT.

RELATIVES WARNED OFF. New York, March 15. In addition to his abolition of the famous inaugural ball, his refusal to accept social favours of a personal character, and his omission to serve wine at official luncheons and dinners, President Wilson, it is reported to-day, nas decided not to use the Mayflower. Apparently he does not approve of the expenditure of the nation's money for the purpose of providing such luxuries. All his relatives have been informed that they need expect no official appointments from him. The nation likes the scruples which are responsible lor these and other resolutions expressed in the form of an intimation that the President prefers to pay for nis own box at the theatre instead of accepting a complimentary box, and to be elected in the ordinary way to any club he may choose to join. Meanwnile Mrs Wilson is exerting all her influence as mistress of the White House to discountenance the latest importations from Paris in the shape of narrow skirts slashed in front or at the sides. Straight, ample skirts are the keynote of all the dresses worn by both Mrs Wilson and Mrs Marshall, wife of the vicePresident.
