WATCHING FOR TRUANTS,
• (Pr»K» Association.—By Telegrapk Timaru, Last Night. The Education Board to-day •elected from fifteen applicants for the post of secretary and assistant inspector Mr J. A. Valentine, B A., headmaster of Timaru South School, widely known as an officer of the N. Z. Educational Institute. The inspectors in their annual reports to the Board state that the proportion of children in preparatory classes last year was 8551, a decreasing number. While the InspectorGeneral had directed attention to an increase in the Dominion as a whole they warn teachers to keep a look •out for withdrawals of children before reaching the requisite age, or for the too rapid diminution of the standard roll number from Standard 4 to Standard 6.
