Many Palmerstonians will deeply regret fcO' learn that Mrs Arthur Mowlem, of Auckland, is still very dangerously ill. Cr. Mowlem iuformed a Times' representative last evening that he has decided not to contest a seat one the Borough Council this election. The councillor's decision will be received with regret as he proved himself a willing and capable worker if a quiet and unostentatious one. Mr G. J. Harford, of Feilding, it a candidate for re-election to the Palmerston Hospital Board. Miss May Pigott, an ex-pupil of the Palmerston North High School, has been awarded a scholarship in domestic science tenable at Otago University fo* three years, together with lees in the domestic science course. Mr C. F. Spoouer announces hi* candidature for the Borough Council.

A telegram from Christchurch last evening stated that Miss E. M. Robertson, of! Palmerston North, was second in the championship recitation for girls. She was thre* marks behind the winner.

Members of the Manawatu Golf Club at the annual meeting last night placed on record their regret at the death of Dr. George Wilson, one of the oldest members of thia club. "Dr. Wilson." said the report, "was one of the original members of the Club, and a brilliant player. Of late years, owing to pressure of work, he was not so often seen on the links.
