FARMERS' INTERESTS.
AMALGAMATION SUGGESTED. A suggestion had been made that a district branch of the Farmers' Union intended to ring up the matter of amalgmation between branches of the Farmers' Union and A. and P. Associations at the next annual conference of the Union to be held in Masterton on May 27. Mr Hunter, secretary of Palmerston Branch of tne Farmers' Union, when approached by a Times' representative, stated that he had received no intimation of the proposal. He admitted that there was room for advancement in Union matters, and particularly in regard to increasing the membership amongst small dairymen, who did not take the interest they should in the Union. He could not very well see how the Union and A. and P. Societies could very well amalgamate, as the Unioa dealt with a number of matters politically and otherwise that did not come under the control of A. and P. Associations The Union and Associations might assist each other in agricultural matters to a certain extent, but to run in double harness under one head wai hardly possible.
