THE WOMEN'S GIFT. SILVER KETTLE DRUMS. Association.— By Telegraph. Wellington, Last Night. When the Imperial Government accepted New Zealand's offer of a battleship the Women's Patriotic L6&gn6 organised a subscription for the purpose of making a gift to the After consulting Capt, Halsey the League committee has decided that the presentation shall take the form of a pair of silver kettle drums. Oapt. Halsey said the League could give nothing that would be more appreciated than the drums, which would be used on all occasions and in the hour of battle would stir the heart of each member of the crew. The High Commissioner, the Hon. T. McKenzie, is to select the drums in London and have them suitably inscribed and presented when the ""essel returns from her world cruise. 80,000 VISITORS. This afternoon large crowds visited the warship. Up to Sunday evening 80,000 people had inspected the cruiser, Sunday's total being 19,000. A number of prominent members of the Maori race went out to the vessel this morning and welcomed Capt, Halsey and his men in picturesque speecher. They also preaenetd several robes and a tangiwai pendant to Capt. Halsey, who, after returning thanks, entertained the natives and presented them witn mementos of the ship. Among the I Maoris were Mr O. R. Parata, Major Tnnuirangi, of Wairarapa (who ] commanded the Maori contingent at Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee celebrations), Te Hen Hen Tukino <Taupo), and Heni Terei (chieftainess of the Ngatiraukawa tribe). .
