The Hon. W. F. Massey, who leaves for Eltham next Tuesday, will be away from Wellington for a week.
The engagement is announced of Mr Arthur Barnett, assista nt secretary to the Wellington Harbour Board, to Miss Doris Gould, daughter of Mr K. Gould, Feilding. Mr and Mrs L. B. Bradstock have been appointed master and matron of the Stoke Boys' Industrial School. Mr Bradstock is at present master at the Rongokako school, near Eketabuna. The College street School Committee last night passed a vote of sincere sympathy with the Chairman of the Education Board, Mr F. Pirani, on the recent death of his brother David. At St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, on Monday morning, .the wedding of a very popular local couple was celebrated. The contracting parties were Mr James Arthur Russell, aecond son of Mrs Godfrey Russell, of Masterton, and Miss Katie Annie Olliver, third daughter of Mr and Mrs George Olliver, of Masterton.
The following apppointments of officers transferred to the Department of Immigration are gazetted : -Hector Douglas Thomson to be chief clerk; Alfred Montague Adams, accountant; James William Coard, Frederick Arthur Ruck, and Robert William Lavery, clerks.—Assn. Mr H. B. Mcßean, who for the past seven years has been a member of the local Telegraph Staff, has severed his connection "with the Department and leaves for Sydney per s.s. Moeraki today in order to take up duties in the "wireless,"' to which lie has been appointed. On Wednesday evening he was presented with a shaving outfit by his late fellow operators at Palmerston. Mr Baxter, who made the presentation, wished Mr Mcßean every success in his new position. Boys jersey suits in pleasing shades of reseda, myrtle, saxe, navy, brown and cream, with caps to match, are being offered by Oollinson and Cunnmghaine at 7/11 and 10/ti. The suits are ail pure wool, warm and cosy, and stand well the hard wear the average healthy boys give them.%*
