A HUMOROUS WAGER.
Mr Samuel Whittle ia the pride of Poole, Dorset, Englaod, turning the scale at 24 stones. He is a jovial soul, who conducts a dairy business, and is a very familiar figure. Placid Poole was, therefore, particularly perturbed when Mc Whittle accepted a wager of a most unexpected kind. Some daring spirit said the dairyman would not appear in Highland dress for a month, but he was quite prepared to do it. An order was sent to a London establishment for a complete costume "to fit a gentleman 63m round the chest and, 60 round the waist." The order was rather a startling one, but by using 40 yards of material the firm were able to execute it. Mr Whittle is now as imposing a picture as the whole county can provide, and he is quite merry, too, for though declining to into details he says the wager which he means to win is for a substantial amount.
