JACKEYTOWN CONCERT.
On breaking up day the Jackeytown bchool was filled to overflowing, the occasion being the annual school con- ? e ii 3 schoolroom was very tastefully decorated by, Mrs McCully. The prograwow opened with an overture very nwely rendered by Miss A. MoEwen. An address of welcome was given by Master George Redshaw, after wnwh the school children Bang in cha.. racter "Massa's in the cold ground* Master W. Rowland's laughable'- Composition on Animals" was followed by ilia Khee," sung by four of the schoolgirls. Miss Richardson's Bong "Tatters" was nicely sung, and received a well-merited encore. She instrumental selections by Messrs Kitchen and Qo. were a feature of the entertainment The school children gave * W a action pieces, "The fo* jumped up" anA •'Hankerchief |> r V& of* w £ were, we}! received. Other i^ ms ZZZ ™£ w 5 r Ju, a, mta'" Mißßes McEwen and Eagle. Mr Fraser contributed a «Cbg which was very finely sung. The following recitations were also given • "A.bunch of flowers," school girls; *£he boy stood on the burning roof," Mr McCully; « Curfew shall not ring .°M If£ V' J?l S 6o' «ichwdsoni '•Mother's Right Hand," Miss Anne McEwen; "A Boy's Speech," Master Haldane McEwen; » Not Understood," Mr Campbell. This part of the programme concluded with an exhibition of the Maori poi dance by a number of the school children, were trained by Miss Norah McEwen. This young lady a.!so gave, a clever exhibition of the double poi. After the supper adjourn-' ment the "Irish Doctor" was staged, and for nearly an hour the audience were convulsed with laughter. Mr Matheson appeared m the title role, and Mr W Stratton was his patient. Mr Campbell 7^^ %tly" the do<"°*'s assistant, Mr McCully was "Donald" all the way from Glasga', Mr Edwards « Smiler/' Mrs Allen was " Mrs Bull," Miss RowLands was » Miss Earwig," and Maater W. Rowland " Toney." The acoompaniments to the various items were played 5? Mro ß,, A' McEwe». E. MoEwen,. Mrs McCully, and Messrs Culmsie and Tart. A special word of than,k.a is due to the ladies who so very feindly provided the supper, to Mr G.e6. Richardson for S 6 So te the BtaSing, and to Mrs Mc,Cully for the use of her piano l«e proceeds of the conoert are to be devoted to the purchase of special science apparatus for the school.
