FARMERS' UNION CONFERENCE.
_ * : . Press Association. ~■ , Wellington, Last Night. The Farmers' Union Conference • opened to-day. The President, Mr J. G. Wilson (of Bulls) in his openirig address, remarked that the Union, which had at first been greeted with hostile criticism was now thought in many centres to be capable of doing some good for the country. Ihe Provincial Councils had been productive of much. ,good. He strongly urged on the farmers the value of a special training in agricultural. and ■ veterinary matters and said the want of a proper experimental station was strongly felt, particularly in any industry. He also advocated the development of such pluses, of farm life as fruit growing and bee keeping, from which a iarge revenue might be easily obtained, ■The Union was shown, to be'full of life and activity throughout the- colony. The outlook, he considered, was still exceedingly promising for agriculturists and pastqralists. Mr Wilson, amid enthusiasm, was re-elected president,l and Mr G. W. Leadly, of Ashburton, was reelected vice-president. The Union decided to form a deputation and wait upon the Premier to protest against preference to Unionists.
