TOWARDS MALAYA
NEXT PROBABLE MOVE,
R.N.Z.A.F. Official War Correspondent. (12.30) SOUTH-LAST ASIA. Aug. 0. With attacks on Japanese-held Siam and Malaya probably the next move by the South-East Asia Command, Sunderland aircraft are ranging far afield striking at enemy shipping. One aircraft, with Flight-Lieut. J. R. Comric, of Wellington, as captain, scored well in the last patrol. First the Sunderland sighted and attacked two stationary 100-foot power barges, blowing one on to the top of the other. Many men were pitched into the water and much damage was done. Giving the barges a final strafing, Flight-Lieut. Comrie continued north, searching for further targets. Ten minutes later he attacked a large supply sampan, scoring many machine-gun hits and seeing men go overboard. A little later he strafed and scored frits on 10 anchored sampans of varying sizes and a camouflaged barge apparently well loaded with packing cases.
