The American Jewish conference passed a motion favouring the reconstruction of Palestine as a Jewish commonwealth and the immediate withdrawal of the British White Paper of 1939, which placed restrictions on Jewish immigration under control of the Jewish Agency. The New York Times reports that Zionist elements at the conference hailed , the resolution delightedly as placing American Judaism on record as the first in support of the Zionist programme.
