MR HOLLAND'S TOUR
MUCH ENTHUSIASM. SHOWN. ; MASTERTON; Sept. 3. The Leader of the National Party (Mr Holland) was given an enthusiastic reception by an audience.of 450 inside and outside the Masonic Hall, Masterton, at 11 a.m., to-day. Mr Holland . charged the _ Government with using the war to implement its policy of socialisation and nationalisation.
Tho people, said Mr'Holland, got the Government they deserved, and they had no right to a better Government unless they worked and fought for it. To-day the people could not turn without filling in forms or getting licenses, permits, or coupons. Bureaucratic control had sprung up, the bureaucrats mainly being those who had not made a success of their own affairs. The National Party's policy had been hailed from one end of the country to the other. The people said: "Here is something we have_ been waiting for, something positive and progressive, nothing destructive." He could modestly claim that the policy contributed something worthwhile to a better New Zealand and a better standard of life.
The Dannevirke Town Hall was filled yesterday afternoon when Mr Holland gave an address on the party's election policy. A vote of confidence was carried with enthusiasm. , The Mayor' of Dannevirke (Mr E. Gibbard) presided. Last night Mr Holland spoke to an audience of 1200 in the Hastings Municipal Theatre, making a total of 2400 electors of the Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay addressed on. the first day of his North Island tour.
