Mr W. A. Jamieson, representing the Kiwi concert party, was in Palmerston North yesterday making arrangements for the appearance of the party here. A London cable announces the death of Mr W. W. Jacobs, the wellknown novelist, at the age of 80 years. He wrote many stories of seafaring men and was part author of a play, "Beauty and the Barge". He excelled in short stories of the occult. Mr W. R. Burns, presiding at a meeting of the Marist Brothers Old Boys Football Club, made a presentation to the secretary, Mr W. G. Singleton, who is leaving for Auckland. He exnressed appreciation of the work done by Mr Singleton, to whose capabilities Bro. Bernard also paid tribute. A Dunedin telegram records the death of Dr. William Evans, aged 68, who was among the best-known general practitioners. He had been in practice for AQ years. He was a prominent Freem'ason and was closely associated with sport, particularly Rugby, being president of the Otago Rugby Union in 1925.
