R.A.F. OVER LIBYA MANY TARGETS BOMBED (N.Z. Press Association. —Copyright.) (Rcc. 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 8. A Middle East Headquarters communique from Cairo states: “On Wednesday night our patrols were active on all sectors. Yesterday there was nothing to report from our land forces, although there was a considerable increase in air activities. “Our fighters and bombers carried out many successful attacks and two Me 109’s were shot down by fighters. Our long-range bombers shot up a number of targets between Dcrna and Sidi Barrani, including the seaplane base at Bomba, where enemy aircraft were damaged. . _ . . “One of our aircraft is missing. Official Wireless. A London report says the MajorGeneral Marshall, chief of the United States Forces in the Middle East, has issued a statement that 37 enemy ships have been sunk or damaged by United States bombers since the latter began operations in the Mediterranean area. The Americans have dropped 9G9 bombs, each of 10001 b, on ships and on enemy supply lines in the desert.
