FEILDING NEWS

One of the early settlers of Colyton, Airs Alice Mary Curtis, passed away recently. She was the daughtci of Air and Airs Henry Arrow, of England, and was born in Kent in 1857. She ’came to New Zealand with her parents when nine years of age, the voyage being made on the ship Stratliallan, arriving at Hawke’s Bay after a voyage of 106 days. Airs Curtis married Mr Robert It. Curtis in Gisborne and they lived in that district during the time of the Tarawei a eruption. They came to Feilding nearly 50 years ago and were engaged in farming operations. Airs Curtis was predeceased by her husband and three children (Airs Amy Hosking and Alessrs Arthur and Ronald Curtis, both of whom were killed in action in the last war). Her remaining children are Mesdames Brooks (Oliingaiti), Hills (Colyton), Knowles (Whanaarci) and Mr Stanley Curtis (Helensville). There are 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Air C. Arrow, of Pahiatua, who recent,v celebrated his platinum wedding, is a brother of the late Airs Curtis. The funeral took place at Feilding, following a service conducted by Archdeacon F. H. Petrie in S . Andrew’s Church, Colyton. The Pallbearers were Alessrs F. H llls and Brooks (sons-m-law), L. Hills and A. Brooks (grandsons), and AV. Po" 0 1land AV. Bussell. Airs Curtis had been 'an invalid for several years and lived I with her daughter, Airs Hills.
