The Palmerston North branch of the Plunket Society has received from Mr and Mrs K. Garner a donation of £52 4s, being the result of a competition.

Among the prize-winners at the annual handwork competition for crippled children which was held in Wanganui were Olive McEwan, Joan Aisher, Beryl Askew, and Alexia Pilcher, of the Palmerston North district.

Members of the Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild stood in silence at their meeting yesterday as a mark of respect to the late Mrs R. A. Fuller and Mrs G. Hallett, two members who recently passed away. The secretary (Mrs H. F. Dodson) was asked to forward letters of sympathy to the relatives.

Tens of thousands of women volunteers are urgently required in Britain for service to release men for the front line, states a London cable. The three women’s services launched a joint recruiting campaign at the week-end.- A special appeal is being made to married women, including the childless wives of servicemen.

Mrs Amy Chatwin, wife of Mr G. AV. Chatwin, of Paliiatua, who died in her 71st year last week at the residence of her daughter, Mrs L. Truscott, Mangahao Road, was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs AA T . Booker, of Marlborough, and the eldest of 11 children. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Miss Doris Chatwin (Wellington) and Mrs Truscott (Paliiatua), two sons, Mr G. L. Chatwin (Carterton) and Mr i. Chatwin (Wellington), the eldest son, Charles, having predeceased Ins mother some years ago. There are four brothers left to mourn her passing: Messrs L. and E. Booker (Nelson), PI. Booker (Palmerston North), and M. G. Booker (Marlborough), and two sisters, Mrs G. Gifford (Blenheim) and Mrs J. Gibson (Lower Hutt).
