PERSONAL.

At a meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association today, it was decided to send a letter to Mr T. B. Hodder, who was treasurer of the association for several years, expressing sympathy and good wishes for his early recovery from his illness. After 40 years’ railway service Mr E. T. G. Osborne, stationmaster at New Plymouth, is to retire at the end of the month on superannuation. His position will be filled by Mr D. McCurdy, at present officer in charge of the New Plymouth goods branch.

Only son of Mr A. F. McMurtrio, Deputy-Director of Education, PilotOfficer" A. D. McMurtrio, who is reported missing, attended Wanganui College when Air McMurtrie was transferred from Auckland to Wanganui as chief inspector. Leaving New Zealand with the rank of pilot-officer early this year, ho went to England by way of Canada. At a meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association today, the death of Mr Robert Bevan, of Manakau, was feelingly referred to by the president (Mr B. E. Keiller), who said that Mr Bevan was a prominent stud stock breeder and also a very old member of the association. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried.

Messrs W. IT. Brown (president), T. At. N. Rodgers (vice-president) and S. I. McKenzie (secretary) were appointed, last evening, to represent the Manawatu Automobile Association at the annual conference of the North Island Motor Union, to lie held at Napier. Mr Brown was also appointed the association’s delegate on the council of the union.

Colonel Kenneth MaeCorniick, D. 5.0., of the New Zealand Medical Corps, has been promoted to the rank of brigadier. Tie was decorated in the last war for his part in the evacuation of the New Zealand wounded at Passchendaele. Brigadier MaeCorniick was born in Auckland in 1801. Subsequent to his service in the Great War he became a Fellow of the Royal College ol’ Surgens and in pursuing special studies of cancer served for some time as. house surgeon at the Cancer Hospital at Charing Cross Hospital. After his return to New Zealand he was appointed honorary surgeon at the Auckland Hospital. For five years he was a memliet of the War Pensions Appeal Board and in the Territorial Force was AssistantDirector of Medical Service in the Northern Military District.
