REMUERA SEAT
REPLY TO MR ENDEAN. 1 (Press Assn.) AUCKLAND, July 23. .Replying to Mr \V. P. Endean’s I statement, the elmirman of the llemtij era Electorate Committee (Mr T. Clilj ton Webb) said the broad principle I actuating the committee is the democratic one that the electors of. the I constituency have a perfect right, I from time to time, to review the candidature of the sitting member if they ! feel that there is a substantial desire for a change. “If this right is not conceded,” said Mr Webb, “it means that the sitting member has a perpetual mortgage, so to speak, over the seat. Tin’s might be summed up in the phrase, ‘Once a member, always a member.’ That there is a widespread desire for a change, or at least lor flic opportunity ol reviewing the party' candidature, is beyond doubt, and the committee in obtaining the right to call for nominations afresh is only giving expression to that widespread desire. Every step taken by Mr L. K. Munro, .until recently chairman of the committee, was with the approval of the committee and Mr Endean's allegation of bias is i entirely without foundation.”
