TROTTING SPORT.

A remarkable increase in the popularity of trotting was indicated at the annual meeting ol the Auckland Trotting Club by the president (Air E. G. liridgens), who said the club had contributed over £IOOO a week to the Government in taxation, namely, £54,120 during the year, and the totulisator turnover had increased 100 per cent, in five years to £572,943. Mr Bridgens said that instead of indulging in criticism the club realised every facility should be afforded the Government in the war effort and he had no hesitation in supporting the view of Mr H. F. Nicoil, president of thc> Trotting Conference, that trotting should be carried oil as at present, or until such time as the Government decided that the sport was retarding the war effort.
