FERTILISER SUPPLIES.
RATION OF 40 PER CENT. (Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, July 22. The Government’s decision in regard to the quantity of fertiliser allowance for top-dressing purposes was announced by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Barclay) to-day. As a result of returns secured from approximately 70.000 farmers, said Mr Barclay, he was able to announce that farmers would be able to receive 40 per cent, of the average annual amount of phosphate which they had used for topdressing during the past two seasons. It had been decided that, where a farmer wished to take other types of phosphate in place of superphosphate, increases commensurate in the phosphatie content of such fertiliser would be allowed. Thus, for every ton of superphosphate which a fanner was granted in his ration, he might replace it with any one of the following at the stated quantities: Basic super, 1 ton 4cwt; reverted super, 1 ton 4cwt; serpentine super, 1 ton 7cwt; and hesketts slag, 2 tons Bcwt. It was anticipated that many farmers would instruct their merchants to add lime or other non-nhosphatic ingredients to their fertiliser ration, and the Government was also applying restrictions in this connection.
