In this, Jean llcrsholt, as “Dr Christian," is allowed full scope for his outstanding ability as a character actor. Under the able direction of Erie C. Kenton, the actionpacked plot holds its terrific pace from the first reel to the whirlwind finish. Mayfair.—Daily at 2 p.m. and 7.45 p.m., “Broadway Melody of 1940,” featuring Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell. Meteor.—Daily at 2 p.m. and 7 45 pm., “The Devil's Pipeline.” Maintaining the high standard of their popular film scries, Richard Arlen and Andy Devine’s newest co-starring picture, Universal’s “The Devil’s Pipeline,” which screens to-night at the Meteor Theatre, will prove exciting screen fare. Abounding in thrills, action and suspense, lightened by comic and romantic interludes, the production contains top-flight entertainment. Dick and Andy are soon as American engineers delegated to investigate mysterious events at their company’s oilfields on a tropical island. Discovery of corrupt practices involving the company’s manager and the island police chief leads . to a spectacular skirmish between white men and natives. Arlen gives his customary expert performance and Devine is especially effective with his comedy.
