Jhe A feat Producers’ Board, in its annual review, points out that it has exorcised the closest supervision of the grading of the various classes of meat killed for export at each freezing works. The supervising graders exchange visits from one district to another to ensure that the grading is niaintainc! on a uniform standard in all districts. The board’s officers also , watch the dressing of meat and the load- ! dig into vessels. The special requirements relating to honing, etc., have entailed additional work in this respect. The grading of lambs killed for export this season up to -May 31. 1941, is show as follows: North Island.—Prime Down cross, 2,063,799 carcases (37 tier cent, of total); prime | crossbred, 1.947,317 carcases (34.9); seconds, 1.567.712 carcases (28.1); total, 5,578,828 carcases. South Island.— Prime Canterbury, 3,655,100 carcases (71.4 per cent, of total); seconds, 1,460,519 (28.6); total, 5,115,619 caraeses. The average weight of wethers was 55.41 b, of ewes 54.31 b and of lambs 34.71 b. It is of the greatest importance that the altered conditions brought about by the intervention of the war should not encourage farmers to ease up in way in their efforts to produce only the highest quality meat, says the board. Under the United Kingdom Government's meat plan. New Zealand meat, branded ns such, is now finding its way into new channels of distribution. and it behoves every producer to do his utmost to maintain, and even improve, the reputation enjoyed by this Dominion over such a long period. This high standard l»as been built up on quality, and supplemented by the board's wide publicity campaigns over many years prior fo the war. Tile natural resources of this Dominion must be exploited to the utmost, by sound principles of breeding, feeding and farm management.
