OBITUARY.
„ .. MR ROBERT BEVAN. With the passing of the late Mr Robert. Bevan, death has removed yet another of the earliest., most respected and interesting personalities of the ITornwhenua district Born near the mouth of the AVaikawa I River 75 vears ago, the deceased gentleman—with the exception of his brother Mr Thomas Bevan. of Levin —was probably the oldest living resident born in the district. lie was the fourth son of the late I homas and Hannah Bevan. who wore two of the colony's earliest settlers. Air Bevan spent his early childhood days at Waikawr, where hie father carried on a rope-walk, together with a sheep farm, and with the coming of settlement the Bevan family moved into Manakau. Tn 1892 Mr Bevan was married to Alisa Ada Great/bach, of Featherston. He carried on a butchery business for many years trading between Levin and Otaki. After disposing of this lie purchased a property south of : Manakau, where he built a beautiful home [ and carried on a stud farm. He was a i member of the Otaki Maori Racing Club j | . acticailv from its formation, a member i of the Alanawatu A. and P. Association for many years, and at all times was keenly interested in the welfare of the ATaori race. The late Air Bevan leaves a widow, three sons._Lionel. Norman and Ralph; one daughter. Mrs Miles; two brothers, Thomas (T.cvin) and Richard (Feilding) ; : and two sisters, Alcsdamcs Nces (Afanakau) i and G. Phillips (Levin), to mourn their ! loss.
