On the other hand, he would have to sell the herd and have the land grazed. He was milking eight cows by hand at 1 present. The Crown representative (Mr C. H. Clinkard): Do you know that it has been suggested that you purchased this farm and proposed to marry to avoid service?—l know that, but I had l>een negotiating for a farm before the outbreak of war. Mr Coleman : Conscription was gazetted on June 22, and you purchased the farm after that. We have reached the stage when married men arc liable to be called up, and we cannot permit single men to remain if they can be spared reasonably. It seems to mo that there is something in what Air Clinkard has said. The appeal was dismissed.
