Count K. A. Wodzicki, ConsulGeneral for Poland, and Countess Wodzicki, visited Wanganui to-day. Mr W. H. Aldworth, of Hunterville, on completion of 50 years’ service as a lay reader, is to receive the congratulations of the Wellington Diocesan Synod.

The former Governor-General ot New Zealand, Viscount Galway, has been appointed Colonel-Commandant of the Honourable Artillery Company. As a military formation the company is probably the oldest regiment in the world.

Mr D. W. Woodward, Department of Industries and Commerce, is now a member of the staff of the New Zealand Government Supply Mission in Washington. Mr Woodward went to the United States in 1939 under the terms’ of a Commonwealth Fund Fellowship for travel and the study of public administration. The death has occurred in Napier of Mr Francis William Triggs, who was well-known as a commercial traveller for a Christchurch firm. He represented it in Hawke’s Bay and was later appointed Napier manager, holding that position till he retired in 1923.

Mr J. R. Hardie, the town clerk, has received advice from his son, Mr T. K. Hardie, assistant-purser on an overseas liner, that he recently met his brother. Private J. P- Hardie, in an overseas camp and that they are both well. A younger son, Mr N. It. Hardie, has been selected as a pilottrainee for the ltoyal New Zealand Air Force.

At the annual meeting of the Manawatu Patriotic Society, last evening, Mr A. E. Mansiord (chairman) recalled that since the last meeting Mr H. N,. Cooke, who had rendered the society much service, had passed away. The chairman, in moving that a letter ot sympathy be sent to Mr Cooke s sons, spoke highly of his help to the association over a long period, and it was decided to place- this .on record.

Mr T. R. Hodder, of Alan Street, who has been indisposed for some time, is now progressing steadily toward recovery, although he is not yet able to leave his bed. At the annual meeting of the Manawatu Patriotic Society, last evening, on the motion ol the chairman (Mr A. E. Mansford) it was decided that a letter be sent to Mr Hodder expressing the hope that he would enjoy a speedy return to his usual health.
